The Hampshire Young Carers Alliance (HYCA) is an alliance of ten young carer services or ‘projects’ within Hampshire (UK), with the common aim of supporting young carers within the county.
Using an allocation of The Big Lottery funding, HYCA commissioned the University of Winchester to undertake an independent evaluation of the work of the Alliance over the three year period from September 2016 to August 2019. The evaluation had several aims including evaluating:
• the impact that the HYCA collaboration made to young carers and families
• the impact of its collaborative approach
• its value for money
• the progress HYCA had made towards sustainability
This latest report builds on an initial qualitative study of the impact of dedicated young carer services (Phelps, 2017). It presents findings of a follow-up study to evaluate the impact on young carers of the support they receive from services (young carer projects):
The above two reports are particularly significant to the identification, assessment and engagement of young carers with support services and how these services benefit young carers.
