Young carers now have rights to an assessment of their needs &#8211; a \u201cyoung carer\u2019s needs assessment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment needs to consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Whether it is appropriate for the young carer to provide, or continue to provide, care.<\/li>\n<li>The young carer\u2019s needs for support, their other needs and wishes<\/li>\n<li>If any of the young carer\u2019s needs for support could be prevented by providing services to the person cared for, or another member of the young carer\u2019s family<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, \u2018a local authority in England must take reasonable steps to identify the extent to which there are young carers within their area who have needs for support.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>For more information see the <strong>Children and Families Act 2014<\/strong>, Section 96: young carers\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2014\/6\/section\/96\/enacted\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/youngcarers.info\/professionals\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/gov-legislation.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"32\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And:\u00a0The Young Carers (Needs Assessments) Regulations 2015\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2015\/527\/contents\/made\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/youngcarers.info\/professionals\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/gov-legislation.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"32\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> Care Act 2014<\/strong> supports a \u2018whole family approach\u2019 to assessing and supporting adults.<\/p>\n<p>See The Care and Support (Assessment) Regulations 2014\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2014\/2827\/contents\/made\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/youngcarers.info\/professionals\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/gov-legislation.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"32\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Care and Support (Eligibility Criteria) Regulations 2014\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukdsi\/2014\/9780111124185\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/youngcarers.info\/professionals\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/gov-legislation.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"32\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Care and support statutory guidance\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/care-act-statutory-guidance\/care-and-support-statutory-guidance\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/youngcarers.info\/professionals\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/gov-legislation.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"32\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Care Act Easy to Read Guidance\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/365345\/Making_Sure_the_Care_Act_Works_EASY_READ.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/youngcarers.info\/professionals\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/gov-legislation.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"32\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Care Act also gives <strong>young adult carers<\/strong> a right to an assessment at transition \u2013 a \u201c<strong>young carer\u2019s assessment<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For more information see the Care Act 2014 \u2013 Section 63.
